It was a bright afternoon, and the backyard pool sparkled under the warm sun. Jinx, a small, lively monkey, was enjoying a rare moment of freedom, hopping around the poolside with playful curiosity. But trouble lurked nearby—Violet, a bigger and mischievous monkey, had spotted him and was intent on chasing him.
Jinx froze for a moment when he saw Violet charging toward him. Panic surged through his tiny body. His heart pounded, and his mind raced as he realized there was no time to think—only to run. He bolted, skidding across the slick tiles, dodging splashes of water, and leaping from one edge to another. Violet screeched behind him, relentless and fast.
Jinx’s little feet slipped on the wet surface. He tried to grab onto a nearby branch, but the slick edge betrayed him. His arms flailed in the air, his eyes wide with sheer terror. Time seemed to slow as he lost balance completely. With a loud splash, Jinx plunged into the pool, the cold water shocking him as he struggled to stay afloat.
Violet skidded to the edge, frustrated, unable to follow him into the water. Jinx paddled furiously, splashing water everywhere, his tiny body trembling with fear and shock. The scare had been extreme, but luckily the water was shallow enough for him to touch the bottom, keeping him safe.
Finally, Jinx managed to grab the poolside and haul himself out, dripping wet and exhausted. He shook his fur vigorously, his heart still racing from the near disaster. Violet retreated with an angry screech, and Jinx sighed in relief, realizing how dangerous a playful chase could be. From that day on, he decided to be more careful near the pool—but the memory of that terrifying escape would stay with him forever.
