Three tradies didn’t come home from work today. Instead, they’re in hospital, fighting for their lives, after being hit by an out-of-control car.

Three tradies casually chatting as they wait to cross the road, oblivious to the fact danger is looming. First you hear the screech of tyres. It’s too distressing to show you the impact. The trio, mowed down by a white Toyota Corolla. They had no time to react. That’s Adi Karam seated on the bench. He grabs his phone and calls Triple Zero. When I heard the crash, it was like just a knee jerk reaction to see what the loud noise was. And then when I saw the car and I knew there were people there because I heard them talking. The intersection of Bungarrabie Road and Lock Street. A scene of carnage and a huge emergency response with bystanders helping as well. Kiri Anstice, holding the hand of one worker who asked her to call his father, tried really hard to stay calm for him and his dad and just let him know that he was pretty hurt, but he was okay. Crash investigators eventually took over the scene, trying to establish how it happened. The CCTV images show a maroon coloured Honda turning right into Lock street, clipping the white Toyota which was travelling along Bungarrabi Road. It’s unclear what colour the traffic lights were and who or if anyone was to blame. Speed a factor in this that will form part of the investigation. Speed and the traffic control signals. This is not the first time there’s been an accident at this intersection. In fact, locals tell me it’s notorious that they say complaints have been made to the authorities but no action has been taken. Dr. Abu Kabir’s surgery is meters from the crash site. So this is happening almost every month, unfortunately, this corner, we need to do something really, boss. We need to do this section intersection really improvement. So three workers are now innocent victims because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. To be honest, it kind of made me devastated. Like they woke up this morning, wanted to get ready for work and then have the weekend to themselves and now they’re on their way to the hospital.
