A 41 year old apartment superintendent in Brooklyn has been killed during a violent confrontation with a suspected package thief at his building in Ditmas Park, New York. The superintendent, a married father of three, was struck and suffered multiple severe head injuries after intervening when a man allegedly stole tenants packages. He was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. The suspect, a 30 year old man, was taken into custody but his connection to the victim remains under investigation. The building’s porter said the victim had tried for months to stop recurring thefts of packages that were being taken from the lobby by a small crew. The attack appears to have erupted when the superintendent attempted to detain one of them. Police are continuing a homicide investigation and neighbors describe the victim as a very good guy who was hard working and well respected in the community. The NYPD is asking anyone who has surveillance or mobile footage of package thefts at the building on Ocean Avenue in Ditmas park to come forward and assist investigators.
